I am an analytic philosopher working on the metaphysics of causation and the metaphysics of properties. My current research topics include the question whether there can be genuine higher-level or inter-level causation, whether causation is an intrinsic relation, and what it means for a cause to be a sufficient cause (as in cases of causal overdetermination where a single effect is supposed to have several sufficient causes). I am also interested in the distinction between intrinsic and extrinsic properties and the recent debate on hyperintensionality.
Together with Jens Harbecke (Witten) and Oron Shagrir (Jerusalem), I am one of the principal investigators of the project Causation and Computation in Cognitive Neuroscience funded by the German-Israeli Foundation (GIF).
